Ex-MLB Pitcher Irabu Found Dead In Ranchos Palos Verdes Home

RANCHO PALOS VERDES (CBS) — Former Major League Baseball pitcher Hideki Irabu was found dead of an apparent suicide in his Rancho Palos Verdes home, authorities said Thursday.

Irabu, 42, was found dead about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 2200 block of Via Velardo, according to Sgt. Diane Hecht of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

Officials reportedly told TMZ that Irabu apparently committed suicide by hanging.

"Detectives and Los Angeles County coroner's personnel determined the resident, 42-year-old Hideki Irabu, died from an apparent suicide," Hecht said.

Irabu pitched for the New York Yankees from 1997-1999, the Montreal Expos in 2000 and 2001, and the Texas Rangers in 2002, when he retired.

He won two World Series with the Yankees, in 1998 and 1999.
