2-Acre Brush Fire Stalls Freeway Traffic In Seal Beach

SEAL BEACH, Calif. (CBS) — A two-acre brush fire at the transition between the 605 and 405 freeways prompted closures Monday afternoon in Seal Beach.

Orange County Fire Authority firefighters were dispatched at 2:23 p.m.

By 3:05 p.m., the blaze had expanded to two acres but was expected to be put out within the hour, according to Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion.

"The helicopter made a couple of drops," Concepcion said. "The fire is pretty much knocked down, and when the helicopter makes another drop, we'll be done."

The freeways were expected to be shut down where they intersect until about 4 p.m., he said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
