Arizona Plane Crash Claims Lives Of 2 Local Police Officers

ANAHEIM and SIMI VALLEY (CBS) — Two local police departments are mourning the loss of two officers who died over the weekend in a small plane crash in Winslow, Arizona.

Authorities say 35-year-old Brian Hayes was with the Anaheim Police Department and 32-year-old Nicole Anderson was with the Simi Valley Police Department.

Friends of Hayes and Anderson say the couple was very much in love.

The two were off-duty at the time of the crash, on a trip to visit relatives in Colorado.

Officials say the couple died when the Mooney M20F plane they were in crashed at the Winslow-Lindbergh Regional Airport after taking off Sunday morning.

Anaheim police say Hayes was hired as a full-time officer in 1999. Simi Valley police say Anderson had been a full-time officer since 2003.

The crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.
