A Year Later, How Does City Of Bell Fare?

BELL (CBS) — The city of Bell is still having a tough time getting back on track almost a year after the salary scandal involving Robert Rizzo and seven others erupted.

And although residents have voted in a new city council, the city hasn't been able to find a permanent replacement for Rizzo.

Interim Bell city manager Pedro Carrillo confirmed to CBS2/KCAL9's Dave Lopez that in the four months the city has been actively recruiting for permanent city manager, not one single applicant has applied. Carrillo's contract is set to expire on Friday.

Bell's new Mayor Ali Saleh told Lopez if necessary, he'll do the job of city manager… for no pay.

"It's actually an opportunity. Whoever comes in here can really do something for this community," Saleh said.

There is one other opening in the city of Bell: police chief. The last one, Randy Adams, resigned after it was revealed that he was making more than the President.

Rizzo, along with seven others, were forced out of office and have since been charged with fraud.
