$50K Reward Approved For Information About Bicyclist's Murder

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A $50,000 reward was approved Tuesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer of a 20-year-old bicyclist gunned down nearly two years ago.

Cesar Garcia was riding his bike in the 600 block of West 81st Street on Aug. 10, 2009, when he was approached by a young male Latino who pulled out a handgun and fired several shots. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

"I would just like for you guys to help us out with the $50,000 to catch this person, because I don't think it's fair for him to be outside killing other people," Garcia's sister told the Los Angeles City Council.

Gendi Garcia described her brother as a "friendly, outgoing skater-guy" who is survived by his mother, two older brothers and older sister.

The council unanimously voted to approve the reward.

Los Angeles police Detective Bertha Durazo said the victim was not a gang member, and it's unclear whether the shooter was affiliated with a gang.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call Criminal Gang Homicide detectives Durazo or David Ross at (213) 485-1383.
