Cyclists Challenge JetBlue Amid 405 Freeway Closure

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A group of bicyclists, who call themselves Wolfpack Hustle, are challenging JetBlue's special $4 fare between Burbank's Bob Hope International Airport and Long Beach Airport to a cross town race.

Don Ward, the founder of the group, told CBS2's Rita Garcia that the airline was kind enough to give them a ticket on the airliner's #OverThe405 program for Ezra Horne, who will document everything from the sky.

"I almost feel like the plane is gonna be taxing and loading longer than it's gonna spend in the air," Race Organizer Gary Kavanagh said.

Although Kavanagh is the cyclist behind this challenge, Fabian Vasquez is the one who will cycle the nearly 40-mile stretch.

"If you told me last week that I was gonna race a jet, I'd honestly laugh," Vasquez said.

The challenge, which is a 40-mile ride versus a 20-minute flight, will have cyclists playing it safe on bike paths along the Los Angeles River.

Initially, the competition was all about having fun but some companies have actually come forward and are offering up prizes to the winner.
