Long Beach Police Join Facebook To 'Share Success Stories, Concerns'

LONG BEACH (CBS) — If you're looking to scare off your enemies on Facebook, the Long Beach Police Department is ready to be your "friend".

The all-new page is part of the LBPD's outreach into social media with the goal of keeping residents — and officers — informed.

KNX 1070's Ron Kilgore reports the department is ultimately looking to start a two-way conversation with the public.

"We'll be able to share success stories, issues that we have, concerns that we may have with the public," said Chief Jim McDonnell.

But McDonnell also noted that Facebook users will be able to provide their input as well "to give us feedback on how we're doing, what we maybe need to do different".

The move is the first step in what McDonnell expects will be a increasingly visible social media presence for the department.

Just don't expect to see the police chief "tweeting" any time soon — at least not yet.
