LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The scheduled closure of the 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass has forced the cancellation of a popular air show.

Organizers decided to cancel the American Heroes Air Show at Hansen Dam, which had been scheduled for July 16.

Organizers said that many of the police, sheriff and fire aircraft used in the show were being pulled to help deal with expected traffic tie-ups.

The aircraft were expected to be on standby or flying surveillance to assess the traffic situation.

The 405 Freeway will be shut down from July 16-17 for the demolition of the Mulholland Dr Bridge, as part of a project to widen the freeway.

I’m not sure why officials would schedule major work on the 405 in the midsummer that would cause such a tremendouse stir. Work could be done at night when traffic is down, and no work that would cause major tie-ups would be done. Even steps taken to do a partial closing of lanes could take the “strain” off of a complete closeing! TXDOT in Texas does some pretty stupid closings, so California is not the only state to do “insane” closeings.
