Travel Writer Gets Her Kicks On Route, Er, 6

LONG BEACH (CBS) — You have heard of Route 66, but what about Route 6? A travel writer is taking the road less traveled this summer.

Malerie Yolen-Cohen left Massachusetts on May 20 with the goal of driving all 3,600 miles of Historic Route 6, which stretches from Cape Cod to Long Beach.

Yolen-Cohen made it to Lancaster Wednesday before heading into the final stretch.

She said it took her six months to plan the trip, which cost her around $5,000. She said it was all worth it.

"It's definitely another way to see America that is not on the interstate and there is a lot more to see once you get off the very fast-flowing highways, where you don't really see anything," Yolen-Cohen said.

Yolen-Cohen has been writing a daily blog since her journey began. She hopes to write a book about her trip in the near future.
