Dead Bat Found In Laguna Niguel Tests Positive For Rabies
LAGUNA NIGUEL (AP) — Orange County health officials are urging residents to be cautious after a dead bat found in Laguna Niguel tested positive for rabies.
Orange County Health Care Agency spokeswoman Deanne Thompson says the bat was found at Laguna Niguel Regional Park and was one of several dead bats seen in the park over the past three weeks.
The Orange County Register says the other dead bats were disposed of before they could be tested.
The rabies virus is found in an animal's saliva and is transmitted to people by a bite from a rabid animal.
Anyone bitten should seek medical help immediately.
