Man, 21, Stabbed On Bus Outside Whittier College

WHITTIER (CBS)  — A 45-year-old man stabbed a 21-year-old man several times on a bus outside Whittier College Saturday, police said.

The stabbing occurred around 11:30 after an argument on a Montebello Transit bus, the Whittier Police Department reported.

Witnesses told police that the assailant, later identified as Ralph Portugal, stabbed the victim in the chest several times with a four-inch pocket knife but the wounded man, a Whittier resident, continued to fight as the bus driver summoned police.

Portugal was later taken into custody.

The victim was taken to County-USC Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

Officers reportedly found Portugal walking near Comstock Avenue and Penn Street with the bloody knife in his possession. He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
