9 Bicyclists Injured When Woman Plows Through Riding Group Near Culver City

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Authorities say one man is in critical condition and eight others are being treated for injuries after an alleged drunk driver accelerated into a group of about 100 bicyclists near the Los Angeles-Culver City border early Thursday.

The crash in the 5900 block of West Jefferson Place and Rodeo Road was reported at 1:49 a.m., Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. The bicyclists were taken to various area hospitals.

"All I just said was watch out. I saw everybody get dragged. Everybody got dragged like a bowling ball," witness Alex Zamora said.

The group, called the "Koreatown Riders," was riding together as part of a weekly late night bike ride that began in the Westlake District.

Christine Elizabeth Dahab. 27, was arrested and booked for driving under the influence, the LAPD said. She is being held on a $15,000 bail. Police said Dahab was driving a white Honda Civic at the time of the accident.

Witnesses said Dahab was driving around 60 mph when she plowed through the group.

Police said the cyclists were also partially to blame in the accident for partially blocking the road.
