Sylmar Man Pleads Not Guilty To Running Over Dad With SUV

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 26-year-old Sylmar man, who allegedly ran over his father with a sport utility vehicle, pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and attempted murder.

Martin Martinez, who is confined to a wheelchair, appeared in court Friday and was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Police say Martinez enraged by an argument with family members got into his SUV, which he had to operate with hand controls, and allegedly aimed the car at his dad and brother.

The father, 62-year-old Francisco Martinez, was killed and his brother suffered broken legs.

The incident happened outside the home in the 13200 block of Bradley Avenue about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Martinez is due back in court June 22, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial.
