Man Fatally Shot While Driving On 110 Freeway Near Carson

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A man was fatally shot while driving on the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway early Thursday morning.

Authorities say Ivan Spencer, 55, was driving his Toyota Prius when he was shot at from another vehicle near the 91 Freeway interchange. He suffered several gunshot wounds to the upper torso area, according to Los Angeles police. The shooting prompted the Rolling Hills resident to crash his car around 2:30 a.m. into a divider, the California Highway Patrol said. Spencer then called 911 himself.

Spencer was conscious when he was taken to Harbor UCLA Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.

Authorities say at this point in their investigation, Spencer appears to be a victim of a random act of violence.

A sig alert was issued on the southbound 110 Freeway. Officials opened the Harbor Freeway around 6:30 a.m.
