Parolee Arrested After Manhunt In Boyle Heights

LOS ANGELES (CBS) —  Police discovered an armed parolee who crashed a car and fled into an abandoned Boyle Heights home early Wednesday.

The crash near 6th and Esperanza streets happened about 2 a.m., Los Angeles police Sgt. Titus Tyler said. The suspect, a man in his late 20s, fled the scene and officers saw that he was armed.

A LAPD helicopter saw the suspect hiding in bushes at a home on Esperanza Street, near 6th Street, Tyler said. The suspect sneaked into an abandoned house and was found by officers and police dogs at about 4:30 a.m.

The suspect, an alleged known gang-member, did not have a handgun on him at the time he was taken into custody, Tyler said.

No shots were fired and no one was injured, Tyler said. The suspect complained of minor injuries from the car crash.

It was unknown what the suspect was on parole for, Tyler said.

Officers were looking for a gun early this morning at a search perimeter in the area around 6th and Esperanza streets.
