Rosamond Man, 28, Accused Of Stealing Gas, Catalytic Converters

PALMDALE (CBS)  — A 28-year-old Rosamond man has been arrested for allegedly stealing gasoline and catalytic converters in Palmdale, according to officials.

Jason Cachuex was taken into custody Sunday during a traffic stop near Sierra Highway and Palmdale Boulevard, said Deputy Robbie Royster of the Palmdale sheriff's station.

Detectives investigating five catalytic converter thefts and several reports of overnight gasoline siphoning in the Park and Ride lot near Avenue S and the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway during the week of May 15th linked evidence found in Cachuex's vehicle with evidence left behind at the scenes of the crimes, according to Royster.

"The suspect has a history of being arrested for theft-related cases and was additionally charged with theft with a prior" conviction, Royster said.

Cachuex is being held on $100,000 bail. He is expected to appear in court June 13.
