CHP Makes 230 DUI Arrests Over Memorial Day Weekend

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The California Highway Patrol says 230 motorists have been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Los Angeles County during the first 36 hours of this year's Memorial Day weekend.

That number is slightly up compared to last year's 208 arrests. Statewide, the CHP reports 897 DUI arrests, down from last year's total of 1,029.

The reporting period began late afternoon Friday and concluded at 6 a.m. Sunday.

Statewide six traffic-related deaths were reported during that time; three of which were on LA County highways, according to the CHP.
