Wife Of Slain NBC Executive Talks To CBS2

PORTER RANCH (CBS) — Brian Kaplon's wife just gave birth to twins just weeks after he was gunned down on St. Patrick's Day.

Kristi Kaplon spoke exclusively to CBS2 News about the tragic loss of her husband and introduced her newborn twins, Reese Ilene and Dylan Brian.

It's a bittersweet time for this mother of three.

"I'm happy that they're here and happy I have a piece of him," Kaplon said.

She was seven months pregnant and happily married to her husband and childhood sweetheart when she lost him.

"Our family was going to be complete," Kaplon said. "We weren't going to have anymore kids and everything was perfect."

Prosecutors say Kaplon was hanging out with his childhood friend David Andrew Armstrong in Armstrong's garage on St. Patrick's Day. They were looking at firearms when Armstrong shot the NBC executive in the chest. Kaplon was rushed to the hospital but died that night.

Police initially deemed the shooting accidental, but later found physical evidence that suggested otherwise, and placed Armstrong under arrest.

Armstrong pleaded not guilty last month to murdering Kaplon.

Prosecutors Tuesday entered an involuntary manslaughter charge against Armstrong in Kaplon's death.

"These people really ruined my life and the babies' lives," Kristi said. "We planned to do everything as a family and...it's just unbearable to get by."

Kaplon said each moment is a challenge but that her daughter Chloe and her new twins keep her going.
