Skateboarder, 35, Critically Injured After Falling From Car Driven By DUI Suspect

SANTA CLARITA (CBS) — A 35-year-old man fell from a skateboard Saturday while holding onto a vehicle being driven by an allegedly drunken 33-year-old man and suffered critical injuries, according to authorities.

The incident on Cedarfalls Drive just east of Urbandale Avenue was reported to the Santa Clarita Valley station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department just after 5 p.m.

Edward Culhane had been riding on his skateboard while holding onto a vehicle being driven by Ryan Howell when he fell off, hitting his head on the ground, according to a statement from the Santa Clarita Station. Culhane was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Howell was arrested and booked for felony DUI, the statement said. He is suspected of having been driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
