Santa Monica Teen Arrested During Explosives Bust

SANTA MONICA (AP) — A Santa Monica teenager has been arrested after police found explosives in his apartment.

Police Sgt. Rich Lewis says the explosives, similar to pipe bombs, were discovered at about 7 p.m. Wednesday when officers arrived to conduct a probation search at the 16-year-old boy's apartment.

Details about the probation search haven't been disclosed.

City News Service says residents were ordered out of the 12th Street apartment building for about five hours while investigators removed the explosives and detonated them in the yard.

The teenager was arrested. No other information was immediately available.
