Parolee Arrested After Standoff With Corona SWAT Team

CORONA (CBS) — Police officers used a "flashbang" grenade to flush out a parolee who barricaded himself inside a Corona home to elude arrest for an alleged felony violation.

Juan Ricardo Jaramillo, 34, surrendered to officers with the Corona-Norco Regional Gang Task Force after a standoff Thursday afternoon in the 700 block of East Grand Bouelvard.

Jaramillo is being held without bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.

Task force officers tried to serve Jaramillo with an arrest warrant about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Corona police Sgt. Frank Barron said, but he abruptly slammed and locked his front door.

Neighboring homes were evacuated as officers set up a perimeter. Barron said officers repeatedly tried to reach Jaramillo by phone and over a loud speaker, but he didn't respond.

A SWAT unit eventually used an armored vehicle to deploy a "diversionary device to the exterior of the residence, and Jaramillo came walking out the front door," Barron said.

The basis for the warrant wasn't immediately clear.
