Big Rig Nearly Falls Off Newhall Pass Transition Ramp

SANTA CLARITA (AP) — A big rig carrying a load of bananas overturned on a Southern California freeway ramp, shutting down lanes for several hours.

California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada says the driver of the Freightliner apparently lost control just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on the elevated transition ramp from the southbound Interstate 5 to northbound State Route 14 near Santa Clarita.

Nobody was hurt. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

TV news helicopters showed the truck on its side, with a portion of the trailer hanging over the edge of the elevated roadway.

The transition road was closed for more than four hours while crews cleared the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Posada says the bananas were en route to a Walmart in Reno, Nev.
