KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports.

Home owners Boris Nazaryn and Gagik Aslanian arrested after Glendale Water and Power investigators found they had rewired their meters to get more than $10,000 worth of free water and power from the city, Glendale police said.

"Between the two of them it was approximelty $5,000 to $6,000 each," said Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

Glendale Water and Power officials say the days of thieves being able to steal the utilities are just about over. By the end of June all homes and businesses in the city will be converted to new Smart meters. The meters will send wireless signals directly to the utility's headquarters and can send an alarm about tampering on the spot.
