Mattingly Says Jonathan Broxton Is Dodgers Closer

(CBS/Dodgers) -- Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti is concerned about Jonathan Broxton and indicated his time as the primary closer was over, at least in the short term.

" We hope to give Donnie three choices or so at the end of the game and let him make up his mind based on matchups or whatever until Broxton can get his confidence back and get settled."

Mattingly apparently doesn't need three choices, he's sticking with Broxton.

According to the LA Times, the manager told Broxton he is still the team's closer.

Hong-Chih Kuo threw 21 pitches in a rehab outing and is expected back on Friday and Vicente Padilla returned from the DL this week.

Broxton blew his first save of the year on Monday night in North Miami, but has an ERA of 4.35 and a very high WHIP (walks + hits per IP) of  1.83.
