Lohan Could Face 3 Years Behind Bars In Grand Theft Case

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The prosecution rested its case Friday afternoon in the preliminary hearing
of actress Lindsay Lohan, who is accused of stealing a necklace from a Venice jewelry store.

She is accused of taking a $2,500 one-of-a-kind necklace from Kamofie and Company in Venice back in January.

Kamofie and Company owner Sofia Kaman testified Friday that she waited a day to contact authorities once she realized Lohan had taken the jewelry. She says the actress had said she would return the following day to purchase a ring.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner could sentence Lohan, 24, to three years behind bars if she determines the troubled starlet violated her probation stemming from a 2007 DUI case.

Sautner could also decide to use a California law that would reduce Lohan's felony charge to a misdemeanor. The law can only be used when the offense is relatively minor and the defendant doesn't have a lengthy criminal record.
