Santa Ana Man Accused Of Molesting Step Daughter And Fathering Child

SANTA ANA (CBS) — A Santa Ana man was in jail Wednesday, accused of raping his stepdaughter and fathering her child.

Mariano Antonio Castro, 56, began molesting the girl on a daily basis when she was 8-years-old who later gave birth to Castro's child at 11-years-old, according to Santa Ana police. Officials say the molestation occurred between 2001 and 2003.

Police say the crime took place at a Santa Ana apartment where the victim lived with her mother, a sibling and Castro. When the girl reportedly became pregnant at 10 years old, she confided in her mother about the rape. Police say the girl's mother then kicked Castro out of the home, but he was later allowed to return.

The victim, who is now 18, broke her silence and reported the crime Tuesday to a priest, officials said. She said the abuse continued until six months ago. Officials say Castro threatened the victim to keep her quiet.

Police arrested Castro Tuesday night for rape, oral copulation and repeated sexual abuse of a minor. The victim's mother failed to report her daughter's pregnancy and officials say she could face charges as they continue to investigate.

Authorities say Castro has denied the charges, but has acknowledged that the victim's child does resemble him.
