Transient Killed By Metro Bus Near Culver City

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Authorities have identified the 73-year-old man who was struck and killed by a Metro bus.

John Wilhite, who was described as a transient, walked outside the marked crosswalk and was killed when the bus struck him Thursday afternoon on Washington Boulevard. Wilhite was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metro bus was turning right onto Washington from Apple Street when it struck the pedestrian. The driver was just leaving the layover terminal underneath the Santa Monica Freeway, so there were no passengers on board a the time, Metro spokesman Luis Inzunza said.

The driver was interviewed and released at the scene.
