VALLEY GLEN (CBS) — LAPD SWAT officers evacuated residents of a Valley Glen apartment complex early Monday morning after an apparent shooting inside building.

Officers cleared the units around a residence with bullet holes in the door so they could make sure no one was inside, a police sergeant said.

A man was shot in the leg outside of the apartment in the 12200 block of Oxnard Street at 10 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Ben Trask said.

The victim was able to drive himself to the Kaiser Permanente hospital in Panorama City for treatment, Trask said.

He was later released.

No other injuries were immediately reported.

Over the weekend – I think possibly Saturday morning June 11, 2011 – there was an announcement over KNX about a community award going to a severely impaired individual. All I remember was that his first name was Glen. Apparently, he’s unable to speak—but nevertheless he has learned to work on a technical system at one of the schools in Los Angeles County for which he has been awarded a degree, resulting from doing a good job. I tried to do a general search through your news archives, but nothing showed up. I would greatly appreciate it if you would send an appropriate reference so that I might enjoy reading of this gentleman’s accomplishments. It sounded fascinating!
I live in San Diego, but listen to KNX most of the time—due to your very high quality of news coverage. Well done to KNX – also – for broadcasting The Mormon Tabernacle Choir at 5:30 am each Sunday morning. It is too bad that it is not in stereo…I once heard – several years ago – that stereo-in-AM was just around the corner. What is the status in this regard? Thank you for all the good work KNX does. It is most definitely appreciated by us listeners. Thank you!
