Man Brings Mortar Round To LAPD's Newton Station

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The bomb squad has been sent to the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton station after a man brought a mortar round there.

Police say a man brought a mortar round to the Newton station, 3400 South Central Ave. in downtown, around 9:45 a.m. Monday after a recycling center refused to take it. The mortar is in the man's truck.

Authorities have evacuated nearby and shut down surrounding streets as a precaution.
