Long Beach Fire Captain Arrested For DUI, Hit-And-Run After Seal Beach Accident
SEAL BEACH (CBS) — A Long Beach Fire Department captain is free on $50,000 bail after allegedly hitting a bicyclist and leaving the scene last week in Seal Beach.
John Hines, 38, was arrested by Seal Beach police for felony DUI and felony hit-and-run charges. Authorities say they responded to a hit-and-run traffic accident between a vehicle and a cyclist on Westminster Avenue around 1:30 a.m. on April 1. Witnesses say Hines' truck was traveling at 60 mph when he hit the cyclist riding in the bike lane. The 48-year-old victim suffered major head trauma and was transported to a local hospital, but has since been released.
Witnesses followed Hines to his home in Huntington Beach where police arrested him.
It is unclear if he has been placed on leave with the Long Beach Fire Department.
