Palm Springs Residents Conned With Phone Scam

PALM SPRINGS (CBS) — Police warned Palm Springs residents today of a con artist who is calling homes claiming that he is a troubled relative in need of money to post bail.

Palm Springs Officer Rhonda Long said, "The victim believes they are helping a family member, so they send the money and then find out later that it was a scam."

A warning was issued by the Palm Springs Police Department to avoid wiring any money.

"If you recieve a phone call that doesn't appear to be legitimate, stay calm and do not allow the phone call to distress you," Long said.

The police are requesting that if anyone recieves such a call, hang up, and call them at (760) 327-1441.
