Man Gets Wedding Present On His 100th Birthday

DANA POINT (CBS) — Forrest Lunsway had one wish when he turned 100 on Saturday and that was to marry his dance partner and the love of his life, 90-year-old Rose Pollard.

The Capistrano Beach woman said she had no intention of remarrying after her first husband died three decades ago -- until Forrest came along.

"He got down on one knee and he says, 'I'm asking you now.' He said set the date. I thought about it for a minute and I said, 'on your 100th birthday,'" she said.

The nuptials at the Dana Point Community Center were a surprise to everyone but the happy couple. The guests gathered for Forrest's big birthday and then came the preacher, the vows and the kiss.

Senior Activities Director Vanna Murphy planned it all. Forrest and Rose have had lunch on countless afternoons at the center. She wanted their secret promise exposed.

"She had told me the secret about them wanting to get married when he was 100 and so about a year ago, I said I would do the wedding for her," Murphy said.

So after 28 years of dating, the bride and groom wed under an arch. Rose Pollard became Mrs. Forrest Lunsway.

"I love you of course," Mrs. Lunsway said to her new husband.

"Me too," he replied. "Yeah, I want you to hang around for a lot of years, because I'm going be 110! Yeah, 10 more coming up."
