Long Beach St. Heading To NIT

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- Washington State has received a No. 2 seed for the NIT and will host Long Beach State in a first-round game.

The Cougars (19-12) will host the 49ers (22-12) on Wednesday night. The winner will face the winner of Oklahoma State and Harvard in the second round.

Washington State's hope for an NCAA tournament bid ended when the Cougars were ousted by rival Washington in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament.

Long Beach St. won the Big West conference by four games, but were upset by UCSB in the championship tournament championship game in Anaheim.

The 49ers were 0-2 against teams from the Pac-10 this season, losing at Washington by 27 and at Arizona State by 17.
