Jimmy Kimmel Evacuated From Small Island In French Polynesia

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Jimmy Kimmel has reportedly been evacuated from a small French Polynesian island after the largest earthquake in Japan's recorded history struck that island nation.

The 8.9-magnitude quake prompted a tsunami advisory for much of the South Pacific, as well as Southern California. Fierce waves crashed into Northern California beaches and harbors just before 9 a.m. Friday.

"Suddenly, relaxing on an island in the South Pacific isn't so relaxing anymore. Good thing I brought my aqua stilts," Kimmel tweeted.

He later tweeted: "we are evacuating the island. dogspeed."

No other details about where Kimmel was being taken were immediately available.
