Woman To Be Tried For Leaving Newborn Outside Church In 46-Degree Weather

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — A felony child endangerment trial has been ordered for a Southern California woman charged with leaving her newborn son outside a church where temperatures hovered around 46 degrees.

A San Bernardino County sheriff's detective says 33-year-old Tara Li Digioia's infant son was found Sept. 24 wrapped in a blue towel outside Big Bear Lake United Methodist Church. The infant, born hours earlier and cold to the touch, survived.

Deputy Mark Rios says Digioia then walked back to her home and drank beer with her family before calling 911.

The San Bernardino County Sun says a Superior Court judge ordered trial after the detective's testimony on Thursday. She will be arraigned March 15.
