Woman In Wheelchair Sentenced For Killing Dorsey High Student

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A paraplegic woman has been sentenced for stabbing to death a Los Angeles high school basketball player with a knife she concealed in her wheelchair.

Thirty-two-year-old Treauna Turner was sentenced Thursday to 16 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors say Turner was in a jealous rage in April 2009 when she stabbed 16-year-old Yolanda Kennard in the chest. The Dorsey High School basketball player died less than an hour later.

Authorities say that Turner and the teen's mother were rivals for the same man and Turner had threatened to kill members of her rival's family.

She was convicted last year of second-degree murder.

Turner's mother, Pamela Johnson, was acquitted of a charge that she assaulted the teenager's mother after the stabbing.
