COSTA MESA (CBS) — A 17-year-old boy was critically injured and two other people also suffered less serious injuries in an apartment fire Thursday in Costa Mesa.
The fire was reported at 3:25 a.m. in an apartment at 145 Melody Lane, said Costa Mesa Fire officials.
The 21 firefighters put the fire out down in minutes, officials said.
Firefighters pulled the 17-year-old boy out of the blaze and rushed him to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was listed in critical condition.
A 2-year-old and 18-year-old were taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, but their injuries were not considered life- threatening, officials said.
According to the fire department, the apartment appeared to be a garage that was converted to a residence, and it did not have a smoke detector.
The fire caused $150,000 damage to the structure and $75,000 to its contents.
