LONG BEACH (AP) — Long Beach police are sealing off an apartment building after reports that a man who fired a gun in the air is barricaded inside a unit.

Sgt. Rico Fernandez says officers were called to the Linden Avenue building at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Fernandez says a man was seen firing a handgun in the air before returning to an apartment. Witnesses reported hearing anywhere from a handful to 10 shots.

Fernandez says the man is believed to be barricaded in the unit. A SWAT team is on scene and residents of nearby homes are being evacuated.

No injuries have been reported.

Fernandez says it’s unclear whether authorities have made contact with the man so there’s no word on a motive.

It would be nice if they told us where so we could stay out of the area. Just Linden Ave. is not enough info. I work too close to Linden and would like to know more info. Thanks!

Honestly? Think about it…..If you’re not stopped going into the area by a police roadblock or perimeter, you’re ‘out of the area’…..they aren’t going to allow anyone into the ‘area’ that is within close distance to the location where the problem is. They don’t evacuate people out, and just let anyone back into the danger zone until it’s resolved. Common sense people, I’m begging you.

ABC website is reporting 5400 block. If you are anywhere near the location, it’s going to be kind of hard to miss the SWAT team…

I agree with Dana, Linden and What ?????? I used to live off of Liden / 3rd..

  4. Liz says:

Agreed Jon……pull your heads out folks…..this isn’t rocket science. The loud, buzzing helicopter(s) overhead is another great indicator of the affected area….quite possibly. Just saying!!!

This just in the swat is camo head to toe as normal urban environment as to seem that it’s all clear it’s best that people stay out of long beach until further notice

Dang! I noticed a lot of police activity ahead but I didn’t think nothing of it. Now I have to turn back. What a mess! If only I the report told me the exact spot I probably would have not headed to the area with a butt load of police activity… (sarcastic)…

DISHEARTENING information. Driving near the 91 freeway, I spotted this man today ! Someone has actually bailed him out. To be absolutely sure it WAS him, I researched LASD inmate records and confirmed. I am almost willing to bet it was a girlfriend – way to go. Now you’ve put yourself and others in our community in danger. What in God’s name is wrong with our society ? Psychological breakdown or not, one thing is clear. This is another violent criminal who is free on our streets to hurt, maybe even kill someone this time. What can be done ? Comments ?
