Restaurant Shooting Victim May Be Taken Off Life Support

SANTA ANA (CBS) — The family of a man shot after a fight at a Santa Ana restaurant will consult with doctors about removing him from life support, police said.

Esteban Navarrete, 35, who was shot Sunday about 10 p.m. after an argument over which state in Mexico is best, was being kept alive on machines at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of Mariscos La Ola at 1714 E. McFadden Ave., police said.

According to officials, Navarrete, his wife and a friend were leaving restaurant, when two of the men who had been in the argument came over and opened fire. Navarette apparently knew some of the people involved in the dispute.

Investigators are considering the possibility the killers, who were still at large Tuesday, mistook Navarrete for someone else in the dispute.

Bertagna said Navarrete's family were meeting with doctors to decide
whether to let him die.

Police are reviewing video from Mariscos La Ola in the hope of
identifying the shooter.
