Missing UCR Student's Body Found In Newport Bay

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — Friends and family mourned Monday for a 22-year-old UC Riverside student whose body was found floating in Newport Bay off Newport Beach.

Alan Lin, of Irvine, was found by a passersby at 7:16 a.m. Sunday in the Rhine Channel near the 600 block of Lido Park Drive, Newport Beach police Sgt. Steve Burdette said.

Lin was last seen leaving Rudy's Pub and Grill in Newport Beach about 1 a.m. on Feb. 5. His family reported him missing and set up a Facebook events page the following Friday, asking friends to forward the information about Lin's disappearance. At least 45,000 people had viewed the page.

Lin's body was found about three blocks away in the bay.

The page was updated Sunday:

"Alan was found this morning 2/13/11. Thank you everyone who was a part of Alan's life and all the concerned people on Facebook. Alan was a great kid and he loved everyone. May he rest in peace. I love you Alan and you will be missed dearly."

Lin's cause of death has not been determined.
