Councilman Fires Consultant Ahead Of Political Hatchet Job
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Councilman Jose Huizar's campaign has canceled a news conference scheduled for Monday that had been intended to criticize Los Angeles City Council candidate Rudy Martinez of Eagle Rock for possessing an LAPD badge of a slain officer.
KNX 1070's John Brooks reports the cancellation comes a day after Huizar's spokesman, who had publicized the event, was reportedly fired for sending supporters an e-mail saying the campaign planned to "put a political bullet' in Martinez's forehead before the March 8 city election.

Spokesman Michael Trujillo argues the e-mail was only intended to be a pep talk sent to a small group, but that ultimately it was inappropriate.
Trujillo claimed Martinez would be "a dead rat" after this news conference just hours before Martinez lost his own job.
