Southland Officials Advocate Vaccines After Flu-Related Deaths

SANTA ANA (AP) — Health officials are reporting the season's first Orange County flu death. Three other deaths have recently been reported in Los Angeles County.

Health Care Agency spokeswoman Nicole Stanfield says an adult died this month. No other details are being released.

Stanfield says 10 people, all under 65, have been hospitalized in intensive care for severe flu cases. Five of them are children.

The Orange County Register reports Wednesday that health officials say it's not too late to get vaccinated. The Health Care Agency offers free vaccinations to uninsured residents every Tuesday at its Santa Ana clinic.
