Crosby To Miss NHL All-Star Game

(CBS) -- Sidney Crosby won't even attend the NHL All-Star game this weekend because he's still recovering from a concussion.

The Pittsburgh Penguins made the announcement Monday in a statement on the team's website.

Sidney is making progress in his recovery but still is not completely symptom-free," general manager Ray Shero said. "In this situation, when he has not even skated for two and a half weeks and still has not been cleared to resume physical activity we think it's best for him to focus totally on his recovery."

In a video interview posted on the team's website, Crosby said his symptoms have not been as intense the past few days.

"The good thing is the last four or five days have been pretty good," he said. "In any case, now it's something that you're seeing more and more guys being really, really careful with this, and it's for a good reason. You don't want to get in that situation where you have multiple ones or you come back too early.

"It's not going to do me any good to come back too early and be feeling like I do now."

Crosby said there is no target date for his return.

"People say mild concussion, but I don't know if there's really is such a thing. It's a serious thing," he said. "Obviously, it's frustrating."

Crosby, the top vote-getter for Sunday's All-Star game in Raleigh, N.C., was injured after absorbing hits to the head in successive games from the Capitals' David Steckel on Jan. 1 against Washington in the Winter Classic and the Lightning's Victor Hedman on Jan. 5.

Crosby will miss his ninth straight game Tuesday when the Penguins host the New York Islanders.
