Police Nab 2 Suspected Brass Thieves In Pasadena

PASADENA (CBS) — Police said two suspected brass thieves were behind bars Saturday after they allegedly tried to steal a historic light pole.

Authorities responded to a call from two public works employees who reported seeing the suspects in a white Chevy van intentionally push over a historic brass light pole at Orange Grove Boulevard and Waverly Drive.

According to authorities, the suspects apparently noticed that they were being watched and fled onto the Pasadena (110) Freeway.

Police went in pursuit of the van, which the suspects reportedly abandoned after crashing at Avenue 52 and Aldama.

Containment was set up  and authorities were able to arrest one suspect in the 5000 block of Aldama Street and the other in the 5000 block of San Rafael Avenue.

"We wouldn't have caught these guys if not for them [the public works employees]," Pasadena police Lt. Chris Russ said.
