Woman Outraged When Airline Loses Her Cat

RIVERSIDE (CBS) — A Riverside woman is outraged that Delta Airlines lost her cat while she was boarding her flight from Egypt to Southern California.

Michelle Evans adopted her 2-year-old cat, "Patch," when she moved to Cairo two years ago and was looking forward to bringing him home to Riverside.

Delta Airlines crew members were loading the cat onto the plane when it reportedly escaped its enclosure. Evans was boarding the flight when a Delta agent told her "Patch" had escaped.

She said she'd checked that all six clasps on the animal carrier were secure.

"There's no way he could have broken out of there," Evans said.

When asked to see the carrier the airline she says the airline refused. She suspects they may have crushed the carrier, allowing the cat to escape.

"The cat was traveling in an FAA approved animal carrier. He escaped from his carrier as he was being put on the plane," said Delta spokesperson Leslie Parker.

"We are trying to help her locate the cat and are offering a $350 reward for anyone who finds it," Parker said.

Evans is also running an international search that includes a Facebook page and blog with "Patch's" picture.

She says she's hopeful "Patch" is alive.
