Man Wanted For Setting Girlfriend On Fire In Hawaiian Gardens

HAWAIIAN GARDENS (CBS) — Deputies want more information about the man witnesses say doused his girlfriend with flammable liquid and set her on fire on New Year's Day.

The woman, identified only as Maribel, remains in critical condition Tuesday with second and third degree burns across 60 percent of her body, according to deputies at the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The attack happened late Saturday night in the 11800 block of Civic Center Drive in Hawaiian Gardens. Neighbors told CBS 2/KCAL 9's Melissa McCarty that the suspect is a known gang member and father to her 1-year-old child.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, is still at large.

Anyone with information about the attack can call the sheriff's Arson/Explosive Detail at (323) 881-7500.
