Inmate Dies A Day After Booking In OC Jail

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — An inmate was found dead in her Orange County jail cell less than a day after her arrest on suspicion of drug possession.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department reported Monday that 46-year-old Cynthia Kaye Drury was found unresponsive in a single-person cell in Santa Ana on New Year's Eve.

The department says the Norwalk woman was arrested a day earlier by Anaheim police on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

The cause of death was not immediately reported. A message seeking comment was left with the Sheriff's Department.

A message was left with the district attorney's office, which is investigating the death.
