Storm Damage In San Bernardino County Reaches $10M

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Estimates of storm damage to homes, roads, levees and bridges in vast San Bernardino County have reached at least $10 million.

County fire spokeswoman Tracey Martinez says Thursday that the preliminary figure is expected to rise dramatically as communities tally up their losses.

The 20,000-square-mile county encompasses mountains and deserts, and runoff from higher elevations swamped roads and some neighborhoods.

Martinez says authorities rescued more than 80 people during the week of stormy weather and firefighters continue to keep an eye on about 100 homes along the Mojave River, which remains above flood-stage in some areas.

Other counties are still tallying their storm damage.
