Green Christmas: Los Angeles Kicks Off Christmas Tree Recycling Program

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles city officials want this to be a green Christmas.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will kick off the city's annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program Tuesday.

Christmas trees dry out quickly and Los Angeles Fire Department officials want residents to remember to dispose of the trees promptly after the holiday.

Trees with all ornaments removed and cut into pieces can be fit into the green bin and placed curbside for regular pick up on trash collection day. If the tree is too big to cut and placed in the green waste bin, the tree can be placed next to the bin instead.

Trees can also be dropped off at select Recreation & Park and Fire Station locations. Click here to find those drop-off locations.
