La Habra Teachers Will Return To Class Thursday

LA HABRA (AP) — The La Habra City School District says a teachers strike has ended as both sides continue to seek a settlement.

Superintendent Susan Belenardo tells the Orange County Register that teachers will return to the classroom on Thursday. She says substitutes will be used on Wednesday and teachers will be paid for the day.

The Register says representatives of the La Habra Education Association, which represents the teachers, and the district were continuing to exchange proposals. A negotiator said he could not say when an agreement might be reached.

Teachers went on strike last week in a dispute over pay cuts and unpaid furlough days the district imposed last month after months of failed contract negotiations. The union wanted assurance the cuts wouldn't be permanent.
